Caulfield - Caulfield (2010)

Caulfield plays a healthy mix of epic crust, hardcore and black metal. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes heavy, and sometimes ambient, they hit all of my pleasure spots. I'm usually not into anything black metal, but this shit is good. I wish they had lyrics posted on their site, but I've heard through the grape vine that they are pretty good and anti-civ based.

Explosions In The Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (2011)

Everyone probably has this already. It leaked a few days ago. Anyways, its the new album from the legendary and extremely influential post rock band, Explosions In The Sky. Its another record of what Explosions brings us all of the time, and thats not a jab by any means. Its more of a 'how can you go wrong?' kind of thing. Its an Explosions record. Its good. Get into it.

The Body - All the Water's on Earth Will Turn to Blood (2010)

This doomy little gem I have for you folks is one of the most appropriate soundtracks for the apocalypse thats ever been crafted (at least I'm convinced). Cruuuuushing doom, noise, avante garde music with punishing guitars, blistering drums, and shrill vocal cries spewing misanthropic anthems ripping through a cacophony of tortured sound. From start to finish this record grips you by the throat and refuses to release you til its finished. The album is ridden with the beautiful harmonic songs weaved into this gritty mess provided by The Assembly of Light Choir. If only I had known of this bands masterpiece last year, it definitely would of made my top five albums list. Even if your generally not a fan of this music give this a chance, you won't regret it.

Flipper - Generic Flipper

Some good auld fashioned slow hardcore for you. Very ominous, thick, and at times depressing, at times funny. Cited as an influence by the likes of Nirvana, Eyehategod, and Melvins. Good shit. Also the best cover art of all time.

Run With The Hunted - Self Titled (2010)

Run With The Hunted are a hardcore band from Arizona. They play dark and heavy music and tie personal misery to the political in their lyrics. Probably one of my favorite hardcore releases in the last couple of years.

Scouts Honor - I Am The Dust (2006)

Scouts Honor were a band from Peoria, IL. They used to tour with my friends in Fire When Ready back in the day. I happened to see them once in Ithaca, NY and then again in Bloomington, IN. They're really nice dudes, but couldn't seem to hold on to a solid line up. The amount and frequency of the line up changes was actually really impressive. Anyways, they played heavily country and southern rock influenced punk and hardcore music. Check it out.

The Tallest Man On Earth - Shallow Graves (2008)

This is my favorite record by The Tallest Man On Earth. It was basically my soundtrack for the fall and beginning of winter. Perfect to listen to and sit around drinking coffee. A lot of crazy intricate finger picking guitar lines and he plays a banjo like a guitar on certain songs. His vocals sound a lot like early Bob Dylan. But honestly, I'm not a huge Dylan fan, but am really into this regardless.

No Trigger - Be Honest 7" (2010)

After over 4 years of not releasing anything new, No Trigger is back together and has released this little teaser 7inch, and will be releasing a full length later on in the year. For those of you not in the loop, No Trigger were a pretty hyped up melodic hardcore band back in 2006 with their full length "Canyoneer" released on Nitro Records. Theyre catchy and fun. I'm stoked for live shows hopefully soon.

American Football - Self Titled (1999)

One of the greatest 90's emo records ever if not the best. Total break up album for all the fleeting summer lover's. Layered with intricate drumming, crazy time signatures, and clean twinkly riffs. Feel good jam's despite the bummed out lyrical themes. Especially the opening song "Never Meant", goddamn these folks know how to write some real quality songs.

Plague Mass - Union Of Egoists (2010)

Crusty melodic hardcore. Individual anarchist lyrics. Hell yes.

Tigers Jaw / Balance And Composure Split (2010)

One of the best splits. Both sides are fucking awesome and catchy as hell. It was also my first introduction to both bands. Balance And Composure, as I said in my last post, play catchy pop punk / post hardcore stuff. At times a little bit whiney, but not too much. Tigers Jaw are honestly just a boring emo/pop punk band. the formula is boring, but it works. Does that make sense? Jawbreaker is boring, but it works. Thats my logic to it. Download this and decide for yourself.

Balance And Compusure - Only Boundaries (2009)

Balance And Composure are a really fucking catchy pop punk / emo / post hardcore band.

Palmkite - The Sound Of Snowfall (2011)

This is the new Palmkite EP. They haven't changed much, which you may have guessed by their album covers... Its good though. Noodley pop punk and emo. Simple formula, but they do it well.

Palmkite - Demo (2009)

I met these kids when hangin out at Bard for a couple weeks last year, and didn't even realize they had this band until I saw them a few months ago with Algernon Cadwallader. Twinkly emo, right up the alley with all of the other 90s noodley emo revival that everyones been real into. I like this band a little more because the vocals aren't screamy at all. I hear more of an American Football influence than Cap N' Jazz.
